Yoonjee Kim began in music as a pianist, winning numerous awards in her youth. As a composer, her Sonata for B flat Clarinet & Piano, the solo piano work /Chu:n/ and her chamber music Bird were performed at several SCI (The Society of Composers Inc.) Student Chapter Concerts at the University of Florida. / Chu:n/, her work for solo piano, was also performed at the SCI Nano Concert at Georgia State University in February 2006. Her another chamber music Gong Mu Do Ha Ga for soprano, B flat clarinet, cello, marimba, and percussion was accepted for the SCI Student National Conference 2006 at the Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. This work was also programmed in the concert of ACME (Arizona state Contemporary Music Ensemble) in November 2006. Yoonjee's composition Hwang Hu was commissioned by the internationally acclaimed Polish String Orchestra R20. This work received its world premiere in Wroclaw, Poland on March 12, 2006. Another commission of her music includes a trio piece Maze of Mirrors for flute, B flat clarinet, and piano for Dr. Esther Lamneck from New York University. Yoonjee was a finalist of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra's Fresh Ink 2006 competition and her string orchestra work Hawng Hu received its American premiere by the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra through this competition in May 2006.

Yoonjee received her Bachelor's in Music Composition at Yeungnam University, South Korea where she studied composition and theory with Prof. Chul-Woo Lee. She earned her Master's in Music Composition and Theory at the University of Florida studying both acoustic and electro-acoustic composition with Dr. Paul Richards, Dr. James Paul Sain, and Dr. Paul Koonce. Yoonjee earned a doctoral degree in Music Composition at the University of Arizona where she studied composition with Prof. Daniel Asia and Dr. Craig Walsh. She has taught Music Theory 1 through 4 for the freshman and sophomore undergraduate curriculum during her attendances of the University of Florida and the University of Arizona.
